Happy Tuesday everyone. Sorry that my posting schedule is off this week, but there are a couple of reasons why this post didn't get published yesterday. The first being that I went over to my sister's Sunday afternoon to watch the Patriots game and have dinner. I ended up having too much fun, that I didn't get home until late, and by then I was too tired to blog so I went straight to bed. I don't think that I have shared this yet on the blog, but my sister is moving away from me! Besides my semester studying abroad, and the two years that I moved to Boston before her, we have always lived within 10 minutes of each other, and now she is moving an hour away. I know it's not that far, but when you're used to stopping over at each others houses anytime, and always hanging out, an hour car ride feels like she's moving across the country! I only have two more weeks before she moves, so I'm sure any spare time will be spent together. Then I woke up yesterday morning not feeling well with a sore throat, so I decided to let myself sleep in instead of getting up to blog, and luckily the twins did too. And well, it's hard to get work done during the day with two 16 month old running around. I did end up having a fun weekend surrounded by friends and family, so it was worth having this post come a day late #sorrynotsorry.
Now, about this look. The holidays are right around the corner, which means it's time to start thinking about dressing for all those upcoming parties. One of the easiest, and most versatile, items to wear to a holiday party is a little black dress (LBD). Whether it's a work event, gala, or family holiday party, a little black dress is something every woman already has in her closet (and if you don't, you should). But lets face it, sometimes you want something a little more exciting to wear, especially if you have worn the one hanging in your closet several times before. So today I'm sharing with you three easy ways to make your LBD more interesting.
1. Layer on the statement necklaces! A statement necklace is a great way to dress up a LBD and give it more interest, but have you tried layering on multiple statement necklaces? I've been seeing this look lately so thought I'd give it a try, and I love how it turned out! I have worn both of these necklaces separately on the blog (here and here), but layered together they make a bolder statement that really adds character to my dress. The trick to doing this is to use two necklaces that are made of the same metal, and have slightly varying lengths.
2. Add a bold jacket or blazer. I love the bright blue color of the one I'm wearing, which instantly brightens up my black dress, plus adds warmth. I especially love silk blazers for holiday parties since they have a dressier feel, but a beaded or textured jacket would also be a great option.
3. Wear a red lip. There is nothing that brightens up an outfit like a bold red lip, and I love this matte lip balm from Revlon. Not only does it stay put on my lips for a few hours (even after eating and drinking), but it's not overwhelming on my thin lips.
Do you have any tips for dressing up a LBD? I'd love to hear in the comments below.

I agree and follow all of your tips of how to dress up a LBD for the holiday season. Perhaps, if one is in the mood, red nails or a metallic or shimmery nail polish would be something extra to add tho the look. Your blazer and dress are hot and those two gorgeous statement necklaces look like one - they are layered perfectly. Overall you look beautiful, sophisticated and sexy.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your sister is moving away. Thankfully is not too far and think about it, each time you two visit one-another it will feel more special. =)
Hope you are feeling better now. Happy Tuesday Rachel!
